A colorful watermelon and berry presentation, ideal for summer parties and casual entertaining.

# What You'll Need:

→ Main Fruit

01 - 1 large seedless watermelon, ripe and firm

→ Berries & Accents

02 - 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
03 - 1 cup fresh blueberries
04 - 1 cup fresh raspberries
05 - 1 cup fresh blackberries
06 - Fresh mint leaves for garnish

→ Optional Additions

07 - 1 cup seedless grapes, halved
08 - 1 cup pineapple chunks
09 - 1 lime, sliced for garnish

# Directions:

01 - Wash all fruit thoroughly under cool running water and pat dry with clean kitchen towels.
02 - Cut a thin slice from the bottom of the watermelon to create a flat, stable surface for positioning on your serving board.
03 - Slice off the top third of the watermelon lengthwise to create a boat-shaped vessel for fruit arrangement.
04 - Using a melon baller or sturdy spoon, carefully scoop out the watermelon flesh, reserving the pieces in a bowl. Remove as much flesh as possible while maintaining a sturdy shell approximately 1 inch thick.
05 - Return the reserved watermelon pieces to the hollowed shell, combining with half of the prepared berries in an artful arrangement.
06 - Position the filled watermelon boat on a large serving board or platter, then artfully arrange remaining berries and optional fruits around the carved watermelon.
07 - Top the arrangement with fresh mint leaves and lime slices for visual appeal and flavor enhancement.
08 - Serve immediately while fruit is fresh, or refrigerate until ready to present to guests.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It looks like you spent hours in the kitchen, but honest truth—it takes less time than a trip to the farmer's market.
  • Everyone eats with their eyes first, and this dish turns that into pure theater.
02 -
  • The watermelon must be completely dry before carving, or your knife will slip at exactly the wrong moment—I learned this the messy way.
  • That thin shell isn't just for looks; if you get too enthusiastic with the scooping, you'll break through and lose the structure that makes this work.
03 -
  • A melon baller makes perfectly uniform balls that look intentional, but honestly, a sturdy spoon creates a rustic charm that's equally beautiful and requires no special tools.
  • If you want to show off, use small cookie cutters on thin slices of watermelon flesh to create shapes, then arrange them on top like edible confetti.
